Migration is increasingly recognized as a significant factor for the achievement of sustainable development. As the UN Migration Agency, IOM helps governments and the international community to harness the development potential of migration for both migrants and societies.
IOM’s work in the area of Migration & Development focuses on:
- Mainstreaming migration into international cooperation and development policies;
- Engaging diaspora communities to contribute to socio-economic development in their countries of origin through skills and knowledge transfer;
- Harnessing remittances to support sustainable local development and investment both for families receiving remittances and broader communities.
