Crises are a common feature of our world today – affecting millions everywhere around the world.
Conflicts and natural disasters produce large-scale displacements internally and externally that expose populations to significant vulnerabilities and generate serious and longer-term migration management challenges.
IOM approaches the migration dimensions of a crisis through the IOM Migration Crisis Operational Framework, an operational tool to improve and systematize how the Organization supports its Member States and partners to better prepare for and respond to migration crises.
After years of close cooperation on humanitarian response, IOM has developed a strategic partnership with the European Union’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) to join forces in providing humanitarian assistance and protection in addressing the mobility dimensions of crises situations.
Our work with the EU humanitarian aid and civil protection focuses on:
- Partnership with the European Union on humanitarian strategy and policy;
- Fundraising for humanitarian projects around the world;
- Partnership with DG ECHO on civil protection.
